Heading to Reno

This morning we went out to brunch before I had to head to the airport. We went back to Joni's house and I said my goodbyes and headed to the airport. Smooth sailing on the freeway. I dropped off the rental car and made my way to the terminal. Luckily I had checked in and paid my baggage fees online, so I got to stand in the short line to check my bag in. Then headed up to security. The line was out the door so I had to stand out in the cold for about 2o minutes until we got inside. Once through security I made my way to the gate. Found out that my flight was delayed an hour so I would be arriving in Reno after 7pm. I tried to reach Aunty Dannie but she didn't pick up her phone so I called Iris and asked her to try to reach Aunty Dannie while I was on the plane.

Aunty Dannie waited for me to have dinner. She was starving. I should have told her to just grab something.

Frazier Park

On Saturday we drove North for a little over an hour to Frazier Park for some snow play. It was very cold. We stayed for about 2 hours then headed back home. On the way, we stopped at Chili's for dinner.

Universal Studios

On the 26th, Iris and I took the kids to Universal Studios. I don't know what the temperature was but it was cold. Matt wore shorts, but at least he had a hoodie. He was freezing. It was very cold and every chance we got to step inside a store or restaurant we took it. The last attraction of the day was Backdraft and the heat from the flames was a brief but welcome comfort from the cold outside.

We met the rest of the family downtown at BCD Tofu House for dinner. Then took a drive through Beverly Hills/Rodeo Drive before heading home.

L.A. beats Boston

Christmas Day in L.A. Iris and I attended the Lakers Celtics game at Staples Center. It was an amazing party atmosphere. The tickets cost $240 each and $20 for parking but it was worth it for a great Christmas day present.

When we got downtown, it was drizzling a bit. The temperature was about 40 degrees. We parked and walked two blocks to The Staples Center passing the brand new Nokia Center on the way.

Game recap:

Kobe Bryant had 27 points, nine rebounds and five assists, Pau Gasol scored seven of his 20 points in the final three minutes, and the Lakers used a strong finish to beat Boston 92-83 Thursday, snapping the Celtics' franchise-record 19-game winning streak.

The victory was the 1,000th for Los Angeles' Phil Jackson, enabling him to become the sixth NBA coach to reach that milestone. The 63-year-old Jackson has a career record of 1,000-423 in 17-plus seasons as coach of the Chicago Bulls and Lakers. He became the fastest to win 1,000 games, surpassing Pat Riley, who did it in 1,434 games.

The Celtics entered with a 27-2 record - the fastest start by a two-loss team. They were in pretty good shape when Kevin Garnett dunked off a feed from Rajon Rondo to put them ahead 81-79 with 3:57 remaining. But the Lakers went on a 13-2 run to finish the game.
