Hawaii Youth Symphony and Band Camp

So we filled out the paperwork for Ashley to attend Band Camp at the end of July. Band Camp is going to cost $521. Marching Band practice starts the day after the last day of summer school. They'll learn the basics for four days then head off to Band Camp in Kamuela for another four days. After that they'll get the weekend off then it's practice two weeks straight for the Father Bray game.

After we got the Band Camp papers filled out, Ashley mentions that she wants to audition for Hawaii Youth Symphony. The audition application is due this Friday so I printed out the app and filled it out and sent it off this morning with the $25 application fee. Sent Auditions are on May 31st. She'll be trying out for YSII and CO.

QBL - Queen's Basketball League

Well today was the first "practice" of the IS Hackers. Yes, our department has fielded a team for the annual QBL. This is the first year of participation for IS and we had our first practice of sorts this afternoon. Well it was more of a 3 on 3 scrimmage since only Brad, Floyd, Tracy, Marvin, Ryan and I showed up.

Let me start by saying I'm so out of shape, it's not funny. I need to get back into basketball shape real fast. We have two weeks until the first game. We're going to need a lot of work before the season starts. Hopefully we'll be able to get in at least a couple of more practices before the first game.

'Iolani Fair

Well it was a busy week. Spent most of the week working at the 'Iolani Fair. On Friday we went to the fair around 5pm and stayed til closing. There was a lot of good food to eat.

Ashley attended Kawai Kon at the Convention Center on Saturday then we went back to the fair in the evening. Spent the early part of the evening hovering around the silent auction. Among other things there were basketballs signed by Jordan Farmar, Luke Walton, Lamar Odom and Derek Fisher. But what I had my eyes on were Kobe Bryant's autographed basketball shoes.

On Friday the bid for the shoes was already going for $400...by Saturday evening the bid was up to $550. Well with one minute left to go in the auction I placed my bid, $570. Yes I bought a pair of used sneakers for $570...Well it was worth it. If Kobe gets the MVP this year...if the Lakers win the championship...it was worth it.

New PC

Just purchased a pc for Ashley. Her hand me down Dell has just about had it. I forget how old it is but it just doesn't cut it anymore. I purchased an HP Pavilion Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz, 2GB RAM, 400GB HD, DVD±RW, w/Vista preinstalled. It was a refurbished box. $438+shipping...not bad.

Ordered it from geeks.com on Friday and it got here on Tuesday. She's very happy with it since it's a marked improvement in speed over her old pc. This is the second computer this year. I bought an HP laptop earlier this year for myself. Picked that up at Costco.
