And this fell out. It was meant to be. So I'm sending $20 to River Of Life Mission so that they can serve Christmas dinner to 10 hungry and homeless people.

A Weekend Disconnected
Well I spent 3 days away from Facebook and Twitter. I must say it was difficult but not debilitating. Starting at midnight last Thursday I decided to remove myself from cyberspace and not post anything on FB or Twitter. Friday morning came and it was ok. I didn't crave that online world as much as I thought I would. Come Friday night I did start to feel a little disconnected though. A few friends were wondering where I was and started texting me so by Friday night I was in full text mode. Going back and forth with a few select friends. Thanks to them for keeping me busy...lol. The rest of the weekend went by pretty uneventfully.
When Monday morning rolled around my self proclaimed exile from cyberspace had ended. I logged on to Twitter and had nothing to say. I haven't even looked at Facebook yet. Hmm. Life outside cyberspace. What a novel idea. So will I get back into the swing of things...probably. Will I get so caught up in all the drama of cyberspace...probably too. But at least I know I can step away and life will go on.
In other news...'Iolani started school today. Got up a little early this morning to get my daughter off to school. She's a Junior now. Wow, how time flies. 2 more years and she'll be off to college.

Annual Father Bray Game
Saturday was the annual Father Bray game. 'Iolani is one of the first bands to march. Ash is a co-section leader this year. For now she's the only pic on the field. The band looked and sounded good, even though they were short a few members. As for the football game, 'Iolani beat up on Kaiser 30-19. I didn't realize it that night but 'Iolani scored all their 30 points in the 2nd quarter with Kaiser rallying in the 4th with 19 against 'Iolani reserves. I'll be uploading the halftime show to Youtube soon.

Band Camp
Ashley is heading to band camp tomorrow morning. They'll be staying at Hawaii Prep Academy in Kamuela on the Big Island. Big group this year. Marching band is including Band 3 so they'll have over 70 at band camp.
She's doing some last minute packing, scrambling to get everything together. I'll be driving the truck with the instruments down to the airport tomorrow morning.

It's Been Awhile
Well it's been a while since I've posted last. Hmm let me think what has happened since then. Well Ashley returned from her college tour trip with a lot of information. I think she can now make an informed decision on where she wants to attend college. April was a busy month for concerts. There was the Hawaii Band Festival, Battle of the Bands, and Orchestra Spring Concert.
I also had drinks with some old friends from Intermediate School...Derek, Joann, Dove, Starr and Sharon. We met at Mai Tai Bar in Ala Moana. It was a fun evening. I haven't seen some of them for 25+ years. Check out some photos here
This month, I'll be traveling to Vegas and Reno. Going to the Interop conference in Vegas and just vacation to Reno. I'll blog or tweet about it more as it gets closer.

She must be having fun
Haven't heard from Ashley except when we txt her. She must be having fun away from the parental figures. It's quiet around the house without her. Two more days and she'll be home. Can't wait to here how her trip went.

On her College Tour
Ashley is on her college tour of the California colleges. While she is doing that, Iris and I are taking a short trip to Reno. We'll be back on the 24th.

College Tour Pre-trip Meeting
Just got back from the College Tour Pre-Trip Meeting with Todd Fleming. Some small changes to the itinerary. He went over the rules and what to expect. My hope is that this trip will give Ashley some helpful information on picking a college. 8 days and counting. I'll be on the same flight to L.A. but will head up to Reno via SFO while the group heads down to San Diego via bus.

Summer School
Summer school registration is open. Ashley will be taking 3 courses this summer. She signed up for P.E., Bible, and PSAT/SAT Prep. $1080. :(
P.E. and Bible are required courses that she wants to get out of the way during regular school so she's taking it during summer. Extra money that we really don't have to pay because these classes would be covered in the regular tuition...but. And PSAT Prep. Basically a study session for the PSATs next fall.

Drinks w/Jerald @ D&B
Jerald was in town from Seattle so we met for drinks last night. Started out at Don Ho's at Aloha Tower then ended up at Dave & Busters at Ward. It's hard to take self portraits after you've had 6 beers.

Solo / Ensemble
It was an early day for me and Ashley. Off to the University of Hawaii Music Department to participate in the OBDA Solo/Ensemble competition. Ashley had a solo in the morning and a duet with Kira in the afternoon. In between we watched other students perform. It was a long but interesting day.

Happy Valentine's Day
Today is Valentine's Day and it is also the 4th Annual Liholiho Family Fun Fair. Iris has been hard at work the past couple of months getting ready for today. Ashley will be volunteering in the morning. I'm stepping back and not volunteering my time this year since I've been sick this week.
This afternoon, Ashley has a final tune up for the OBDA Solo/Ensemble competition tomorrow.

Into the Pit once again
Pit rehearsals for Pippin begin today. Ashley is once again playing in the pit orchestra for the Spring musical, "Pippin". Starting next week they'll have two weeks of rehearsal followed by 4 shows, February 25th - 28th.

Scheduling Requirements Meeting
Went to the Scheduling Requirements meeting for juniors last night. Wow, a lot to think about. Looks like Ashley will probably be going into Precalculus, Physics and also taking AP Latin. She wants to also take AP US History but I'm not sure she can handle the load. She needs to get approvals from her counselor and department heads and they may not let her since she will also be in marching band. PE, and English will round out her schedule. Junior year is going to be tough.

Storm approaching
There is a storm packing strong winds approaching the islands. Earlier this afternoon the DOE announced all public schools were closing tomorrow as a precautionary measure because of expected high winds of up to 60mph. 'Iolani just sent out an announcement about a half hour ago that they will be shutting down as well.

Sick all week
Well everything was fine on our trip. But when I got home I got sick. I went to work on Monday but stayed home the rest of the week with a cough and just overall run down feeling. Luckily it wasn't too bad.
